Dodd-Frank Act and its Implications for the Electronics Supply Chain : A Talk by Randy Daugharthy

Randy Daugharthy (randy.daugharthy@us.bureauveritas.com) of Bureau Veritas will present on the Dodd-Frank Act and its Implications for the Electronics Supply Chain at the CALCE SMTA conference at College Park, Maryland on June 24th.

Abstract:

Conflict minerals with origins in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries have been linked to armed groups accused of severe human rights abuses and of using proceeds from the sales of these minerals to fuel regional conflicts. The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act Section 1502 addresses this humanitarian issue by requiring companies, including electronics manufacturers and suppliers, to publicly disclose the origin and chain of custody of specific conflict minerals (tantalum, tin, tungsten, and gold) in their supply chains.

Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, will educate your attendees with a presentation on the following topics:
  • Provide an overview of the Dodd-Frank Act, discuss the importance of supply chain transparency, and future deadlines for deliverables.
  • Discuss how electronics manufacturers and supply chain managers can achieve compliance, what steps they must take if the presence of conflict minerals in their products are found to be undeterminable, and other considerations for improving supply chain due diligence.
  • Discuss solutions for handling the compliance process, such as utilizing third-party certification bodies to provide training, review of due diligence systems, and auditing and reporting services.
With the first SEC filing taking place on May 31, 2014, electronics manufacturers and supply chain managers will benefit from a review of findings from the first disclosure reports on conflict minerals and gain a better understanding of the steps required, as well as ways to improve the transparency of their supply chains moving forward.
