Sultan Ali Lilani is Director of Technical Business Development at Integra Technologies. Prior to joining Integra Technologies, Sultan held a similar position at Silicon Turnkey Solutions. Previous to Silicon Turnkey Solutions, Sultan was Director of Quality and Reliability at NEC Electronics for 18 years and also served as Director of Product and Test at Akros Silicon, an energy management IC start-up.
Sultan has in-depth knowledge of Reliability Engineering, Program Management, Testing and Qualification for Aerospace, Defense and Industrial applications for semiconductor products including Digital, Analog, Mixed Signal, ASICs, Microprocessors, Memory, Custom Semiconductors, Discretes, Linears and Passives.
Sultan is the chair of PEM task team for SAE along with co-chairing the Cu bond wire task tea. Sultan also co-chairs SAE G19A Counterfeit Committee which is developing standards to detect suspect counterfeit components, promoting the maxim use of authentic parts, and helping ensure consistency of test techniques and requirements across the supply-chain.
Abstract
It is a well-known fact that the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) markets are facing severe problems due to infiltration of counterfeit electronic parts in their hardware. The Original Component Manufacturers are introducing newer EEE parts at a very fast rate to keep up with their market requirements and products are getting obsolete at much faster rate. Management of product obsolescence is playing a bigger role on how we combat the on-going counterfeit problem that A&D companies face.
This paper will discuss an obsolescence managementprocess that consists of:
- Form Fit Function replacement
- Re-design solution
- Interposer
- Die procurement and assembly with QML assembly partners
- Buy EOL product and manage customer owned inventory
- Short and Long Term Contract
- PCN/PDN - review.
- Work with franchised distribution with access to their PCN/PDN surveys with supply chain communication
- After market procurement of devices
- Full authenticity investigation, qualification and testing.
The paper will provide details of a very comprehensive obsolescence management program and the best practices associated with such program implementation. Paper will also discuss howaParts Management Program provides the fundamental solution to upcoming product obsolescence. It will also discuss how a long term supply of authentic product that has been fully screened and subjected to value added services for an extended period of time after product obsolescence is made available to the A&D market.
