Abstract: Color Shift Analysis and Modeling of High Power pc-LED under High Temperature and High Humidity

Daktronics uses high volumes of LEDs in module systems that encounter severe outdoor environments for extended durations. Environmental protection for LEDs is necessary for reliable field life of displays. When this protection fails, corrosion will occur and produce a variety of undesirable and sometimes severe symptoms. Understanding whether LEDs have failed for corrosion or some other reason during reliability testing or field exposure is critical feedback necessary for successful product design, development and manufacturing. This presentation will illustrate examples of various corrosion failures and some of the tools utilized to understand the mechanisms underlying those failure mechanisms.

About Tonja Jorenby:

Tonja is an electrical engineer with 10 years of experience at Daktronics Inc. She has worked as a test engineer for much of that time, verifying that Daktronics equipment will continue to perform reliably when stressed. Product lines she has tested are widely used, from sports arenas to digital billboards to ubiquitous gas price displays. Tonja has been part of the Daktronics Product Reliability Lab since 2008 and has experience with a wide range of environmental testing as well as verification and demonstration testing of LED display elements. She has extensive experience with failure analysis of LEDs and other display components as a result.
