CALCE Webinar - Swelling in Lithium-Ion Batteries: Causes, Characterization, and Thermal Runaway DetectionThursday, January 23, 11:00 am US EDT
About the Presenters: Sahithi Maddipatla is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, under the direction of Prof. Michael Pecht while working as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE). She earned her B.E. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India, in 2020. Her research interests include failure analysis, testing, prognostics, and health monitoring of lithium-ion batteries, with a focus on swelling mechanisms in pouch-type lithium-ion cells. Her current work on early detection of thermal runaway is supported by a Discoveries in Safety Grant from Underwriters Laboratories. To date, she has published four papers on topics including failure analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), swelling, and core collapse in batteries.
