Abstract

Commercial electronic products use many types of adhesives such as pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) and Heat Activated Films (HAFs). In this webinar, properties of some common HAFs are discussed. The HAFs that will be discussed here are made of different thermoset and thermoplastic polyurethane blends. Unlike many other polymers (such as cross-linking epoxies) that stiffen and strengthen upon curing, Polyurethane HAFs soften and weaken upon curing. This has special consequences in terms of the reliability of the structures that are bonded with HAFs. In this study, the properties of a few common HAFs before and after curing are presented.
