Abstract:
Companies using alkaline coin cells in their products are interested in non-destructive methods to identify cell degradation without disassembling the final products before the shipment. This paper discusses the accelerated testing of 1.5 V, 150 mAh rated non-rechargeable alkaline coin cells, and the monitoring of swelling as a means to assess the degradation of the cells. A non-destructive X-ray inspection method was used to assess degradation in the coin cells that can be implemented even when the cells are encased in the final product.
