Abstract:
Data collection is an essential part of a prognostics and health monitoring approach and often requires the use of sensor systems to measure the environmental and operational parameters of a product or system. A survey is presented on the commercial availability of sensor systems that can be used for monitoring electronic products and systems. From the results of our survey, characteristics of state-of-the-art sensor systems are identified to enable decision support for electronics manufacturers interested in implementing prognostics and health monitoring into their products. Finally, emerging trends in sensor system technology are discussed to show the direction of future research and development in this field.
