Design For Qualification

M. Pecht

Abstract:

As the need for ultra-reliable electronic equipment increases, especially in life -critical applications, there will be an increased need to implement rigorous qualification procedures can no longer be based on a foundation of tests.  Equipment must now be designed in a manner in which failure behavior and interactions can be modeled and audited.  Furthermore, the equipment must be designed such that the reliability does not directly depend on parameters that cannot be adequately determined.  This paper presents a design methodology called "design for qualification" based on the concept of designing electronic equipment to ensure rigorous qualification.
